We have held the third successful clean-up day on the Calder & Hebble Navigation in Brighouse – this time focussing on the stretch of canal between the market and the marina. We were assisted again by the Calder Navigation Society and their work-boat, as well as having the Pennine Canoe Club on hand to fish litter out of the water.
Half a dozen volunteers were transported by the work boat to the far side of the canal (next to the old Brighouse baths) – there they cleared the overgrown banking which had become an eyesore when viewed from the Bethel Street side. The brash was then taken back across the water by the Navigation Society boaters to be skipped.
The event was co-ordinated by the manager of the Waterfront Lodge (who also provided refereshments) and also supported by Sainsbury’s Supermarket and the Rokt Climbing Gym – not to mention the volunteers who gave their time on a marvellously sunny autumn Sunday.
