The beckside before the work began
The beckside before the work began
Over the last years Calder Future has supported the Bailiff Bridge Community Association in their litter sweeps of Clifton Beck. This work has taken on a new prominence now that the new library and community centre are being built at this waterside site.

Our organisation has now been funded by the Landfill Tax to create a pocket park on the land opposite the community centre, fronting on Wakefield Road. The work will involve the creation of a surfaced footpath to take people down to the water’s edge, the siting of a picnic bench and the strengthening of the eroded riverbank. We began by planting some flowers in this new community area with the Probation Service in June 2008.

The work is now continuing with the laying of the footpath, and we have also constructed a fenced area for the picnic bench. There will also be some more plants going in, now that we have prepared the ground. Look at the events calendar to find out the next task at Bailiff Bridge – everyone is welcome.
